At just 7.6mm thick and weighing 112g the iPhone 5 is 20% lighter than the 4S. The new 4 inch Retina display is longer, not wider, so now there's a 5th row of icons on the homescreen. The iPhone 5 has the latest A6 quad-core chip delivering 2x faster performance compared to the A5 chip on previous models.

As well as offering 3G, HSPA+ and Wi-Fi, the iPhone 5 has 4G LTE with data speeds comparable to fibre broadband. 4G will be available in the UK by the end of the year and customers who buy the iPhone 5 now will be able to use 4G once their network support it. Orange and T-Mobile will be the first to offer the service in all major UK cities before the end of 2012. Other networks will follow in 2013.

The camera on the iPhone 5 now has a hybrid IR filter, 5 elements lens, f/2.4 aperture and precision lens alignment. The 8 megapixel camera also has a panorama mode. You can take a slow sweep of the landscape and the iSight camera combines the images to create a stunning 28 megapixel panoramic photo. Video records at 1080p HD and includes face detection for up to 8 people. There's also a front facing 720p camera for use with FaceTime.

iOS 6 has more than 200 new features, the Maps app is now Apples own and it includes fantastic 3D detailing, turn-by-turn navigation and Flyover allowing you to get a bird's eye view of major cities and landmarks. Siri has also received an update with enhanced and improved usability; more answers to questions and it can now update your Facebook status too.
